2022 Discovery Health contribution increases
Following a freeze in contributions in 2021 and to keep pace with medical inflation, Discovery Health has escalated all contributions by 7.9%. Increases kick in on 1 May 2022.
Updates to Discovery Health benefits
The scheme has announced the following benefit updates:
- The Assisted Reproductive Therapy Benefit now provides funding for embryo freezing, egg-donated cycles and cryopreservation on the Comprehensive and Executive plans.
- Cover provided for costly cancer therapies and medications, via the Oncology Innovation Benefit, has been extended to five additional options.
- An enhanced Palliative Care Benefit replaces the Compassionate Care and Advanced Illness benefits.
- The Trauma Extender Benefit is available on all Discovery Health plans and now includes funding for multiple counselling sessions.
- An improved Basic Dental Trauma Benefit has been integrated into all options, with the exception of the Essential Smart and KeyCare plans.
Discovery Health at Home cover
Members with specified medical or surgical conditions now have access to personalised, hospital-level care in their homes.
The Hospital at Home programme includes real-time monitoring, continuous healthcare assessments and, where necessary, targeted interventions.
Funds are derived from the Hospital Benefit. Access is subject to doctors’ referrals and pre-authorisations.
Transport services, special meals and around-the-clock health care for senior citizens are added benefits.
Discovery Pay in 2022
Discovery Pay is a digital payment platform that facilitates automated payments from the member’s Discovery Bank account.
By activating Discovery Pay, members can transact across the entire scheme network using their mobile phone.
Scannable QR codes at the healthcare providers’ rooms enable automated claims submissions, where co-payments are deducted from the linked bank account in real-time.
The Discovery Pay app is free to use and supports access to Pay As You Gym facilities at reduced rates.
Three months free Vitality membership
In 2022, Discovery Health members have the option of a free three-month trial of the Vitality or Vitality Active programmes.
All the benefits are available to trialists, who have the option to cancel any time during the three months.
Digital support communities for certain chronic conditions
Discovery Health has created a community-based digital support network for members living with diabetes, heart disease and long covid.
Access to expert blogs and live Q&A sessions, curated content and real-time sharing of health experiences is enabled via a partnership between the scheme and MyHealthTeams.
All shared information is managed and clinically moderated by experts to ensure that it’s fact-based and relevant.
